I am attempting to set up my new KrakenSDR and after much time troubleshooting have found I am experiencing a kernel panic situation that prevents the Pi from booting.
I am utilizing a Raspberry Pi 5 and have tried both the June and March images with the same issue. The RPi5 is a 2GB model, however beyond not seeing requirements that larger RAM is required I believe it is a moot point as the Pi does not boot to a point where the Kraken software can even run.
As it sits after many troubleshooting steps, I am attempting to just boot the RPi5 with no Kraken hardware connected. The Pi is connected to a HDMI monitor using a mini HDMI to HDMI adapter and regular HDMI cable. The Pi is being powered by a 3A capable wall charger using a USB-C to USB-C cable.
There is a lag in the monitor showing display input after power is applied to the Pi so I am not able to view the entire console output, however the error I am seeing is “Kernel panic - not syncing: Asynchronous SError Interrupt”. This is an output of some data under a “Call trace:” that I can provide, if needed. The console output then halts with an end Kernel panic line.
As I mentioned, both the June and March published images produce this. I am currently attempting to use the March image as it happened to be more convenient to write last. I have also downloaded and applied the basic Desktop version of the official Raspberry Pi images. Using the official image resulted in no visible errors output to the console and it completed boot into the welcome/setup screen.
After trying the official image, going back to the Kraken provided image produced the same error and failed boot condition.
I have had difficulty in finding much for pertinent information, however what I have found has pointed to something with the SD card file system. I only have the single RPi5 and SD card currently, however given that I am able to boot into the official image I am discounting a hardware issue with either and believe it is related to the image itself.
Initially I had made some changes with .nmconnection files to utilize existing networks after writing to the SD card, however I am currently attempting to utilize the stock image as downloaded and written directly to the card.
