Hello, im new sdr radio would possible to locate signal, when keying up on encrypted radio . Using kraken would i need to run 3 kraken to triangulated signal?
Actually, 2 is ok, but 3 is better, when i was working for PTS, (sweden FCC), i could use a fixed DF, and combine with the mobile. Same you can do with krakensdr. I have a DDF 195 system, and i have to say that krakensdr is better …the best!!!
Thanks for replying. Im new to sdr i will purchase kraken and try it thanks again.
I assume that the DDF 195 can do much, much more than what the KrakenSDR can do. Doesn’t it cost over $100k?
Okay , so can you answer question. Can kraken locate encrypted radio when keying up ?
DDF195 cant do more, krakensdr is better, the only good thing with DDF195 is that the antenna cover 20-1300MHz, but its not easy to carry…its heavy. And control cable has 24 wires. So that is also heavy. The antenna i have is ADD195. There is HF antenna also think ADD095, and SHF antenna ADD071. The pricetag…well Rhode & Schwartz is expensive and made for government and military. I put up a picture on the antenna. I have done DF on digital signals with krakensdr, its no problems.
Yes, you don’t need to decode or decrypt the signal in order to use it for direction finding.
Thanks for replying. Will 1 Kraken be okay or 2 kraken?
That depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you have a mobile system with a car, only one unit is required. If you’re triangulating with multiple units at fixed sites spread out over a large area, you’ll want 3+ units.
