I finally have this thing working, but it’s rather annoying:
After working for a bit, I’ll get some notice because I passed an open wifi point, and then about 50% of the time the connection between my phone and the PI drops. I then have to re-enable connection sharing, wait for the PI to re-connect, then drill down and find out the IP of the PI (The PIIP?) and it’s always different. Then I have to go into the Kraken app and enter the new IP address… Rather a lot of clickety for something that’s generally expected to be used while mobile.
So how can I stop the PI IP address from changing?
I don’t understand, why are you getting the WiFi dropping when you pass a WiFI point?
By open WiFi point, do you mean one without password? I’m fairly certain that can’t be the default behavior for most devices as that could open up all sorts of honeypot security issues. There must be a setting on your phone that has been activated that tells it to auto-connect to any open wifi.
No idea, and I didn’t tell my phone to do that, but everyone loves to “help” you.
I wouldn’t expect the hotspot to stop working either just because I connected to some wifi point.
I think the hotspot could stop working when you connect to another IP, because the hotspot generates it’s own WiFi connection. If the phone decides to suddenly connect to another WiFi, it might disconnect mobile internet too, because you have a WiFi internet connection now. When you reconnect the hotspot to your provider, it’s a new connection, and hence a new IP address.
It’s probably different for every Android phone, but I Googled this link which might help How to Prevent Wi-Fi From Connecting Automatically
