GSM frequency detection

Hello,

For a project, I want to embark the Kraken system on a drone in order to detect phones waves from people lost in rural (mountain) areas. The frequency band would be ~880-960MHz.

I would like to know if phones can send powerful enough waves to be detected through the spectrum analyzer by the Kraken, and if you have advice concerning the setup of antenas.

It’s possible if you know the exact frequency the phone will transmit on. Unfortunately that is not usually known. So you’d likely want another SDR doing wideband spectrum analysis to try and catch the burst.

Also remember that a phone very rarely transmits when it is not in use.
