Hi! Wondering if there has been any efforts or discussions to develop another piece of kraken hardware that would support direction finding in the multi GHz range for Wi-Fi and microwave links, etc. I imagine such a product would involve packaging multiple higher sample rate SDRs like HackRF’s together on the same board, which have clock inputs, for instance.
Yes, we are working on a 2+ GHz version of KrakenSDR. Unfortunately, it will have a substantially higher price than the existing product.
Can you share what the current status of development is? I’d really like pick one up when it comes out!
It’s still in active development. We were on our fourth (?) prototype, so we are getting closer. This is likely going to be a ~$5000 device.
Thanks! Is there a top end frequency you guys are designing towards?
Up to 6 GHz, with integrated antennas on the device.
Hey Syed, Had a few questions about this new Kraken. You had mentioned built in antennas, Does this mean the need for a array will be gone? Also is this going to be a tracker or a DOA? Thanks!
For a few higher frequency bands, an external array won’t be required.
What do you mean by it being a tracker?
I guess my question really is, are the features of the current kraken and this new one going to be the same? Just with the obvious difference of the higher frequency ability.
Yes, the features are the same. It’s still five channels. We will also Include the power supply and compute (Pi 5, uncertain whether it will be a CM5), as well as the radome around the antennas.
It’s going to be a substantially larger device. The PCB alone is 30cm x 30cm. It’s also going to be substantially more expensive.
