Expanding Antenna array

Even though I don’t own a Kraken(ATM) I really like this project and think how it can be improved.

I’ve seen 3d printed templates that helps placing the antennas in certain distances based on frequency and it reminded me of the expanding pulley mechanism(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU77kPf25Yg) which could be used to adjust the distance using one gear

I think the “spiral” and multiple tentacles fit the brand

As I’m not an owner nor experienced in cad nor have the tools I’m not going to approach it but some should deferentially go at it!

Of course it could further be motorized and auto adjusted based on frequency etc…

Ha! I’ve been thinking about a similar design enter since KrakenSDR was first released. Thanks for link. It is very relevant and useful.

did you ever find a source for the 3d printed template?

We’ve thought of a very similar design in the past, but a remaining problem is that the antenna elements also need to be adjusted for best performance when changing the array size, so you’re still doing a manual operation on the antennas anyway.

It is possible that this mechanism could be combined with a motorized telescopic antenna, or some sort of wideband antenna though.
