Discovery dish assembly

I’m new to this stuff - so please bear with me. Am I supposed to orient the arrow on the black pipe guide mount in any certain direction? I believe the LNA skew is set looking from the rear of the dish.

For GOES 18 it looks like I need 213 degree magnetic north azimuth, 43.2 degree elevation, and a clockwise skew of 34.6 degrees for the LNA.

Which I have done (I think) and see what I believe is the satellite signal using Airspy RTL-SDR blog v4. But I don’t think the signal is strong enough.

I’ve got a pi4 setup with sat dump cmd line mode, but was trying to get the dish aligned before I fired up the pi4.

Oh yeah, great job on the dish. My granddaughter is pretty psyched - plan on keeping a portable setup so she can take it to her school for science class.

Yep align the arrow according to the skew.

That signal is GOES, and it looks like it’s got good signal strength.

But try it with SatDump. It’s best to try and align with SatDump because it gives you a BER and SNR value that you can use to truly maximise reception. It’s a little trickier to just try and eyeball it with the spectrum.

Wow! I’ll just say that again- Wow, so nice I had to say it twice!

You sir are a prince amongst men. Great product, great folks.

thank you Carl!

Granddaughter gave bopop this. Maybe we have a budding engineer.
